Création lyrique qui s'ouvre sur une mélodie généreuse et planante, le premier mouvement est une vision lumineuse et dorée, gracieuse et vivante.
Suit un deuxième mouvement mystérieux et sensuel, évoquant le parfum du jour qui se dissipe.
Pour clore le tout, le troisième mouvement, capricieux et rythmé, est une vitrine technique pleine de virtuosité et un jeu de dupes.

高らかなメロディーで幕を開けるリリカルなソナタ。第1楽章は光り輝く黄金の幻想、優美で生き生きとしている。
続いて第2楽章は神秘的で、散り行く昼間の香りを思わせる。
最後に、第3楽章は、ヴィルトゥオーゾ的なテクニックとリズムの技術的なショーケースであり、やや生意気で楽しい楽章です。

A lyrical creation that opens with a generous and soaring melody, the first movement is a luminous and golden vision, a graceful and lively.
A mysterious and sensual second movement follows, evoking the perfume of dissipating daytime.
To close off, the capricious and rhythmic third movement is technical showcase of virtuosic techniques full and a game of hard-to-catch.

Commandée dans le cadre de la série de concerts de contes de fées de la bassoniste Cornelia Sommer, Hanasaka Jiisan est basée sur un conte folklorique japonais très apprécié qui raconte l'histoire d'un vieil homme (le basson) et de son chien (le hautbois) qui a un talent particulier pour trouver des trésors cachés sous terre. Par le biais d'une narration musicale, la pièce explore la brutalité humaine et la nature éphémère de la vie, ainsi que le côté de la compassion humaine et la nature éternelle de l'amitié.

Commissioned as a part of bassoonist Cornelia Sommer's Fairytale Concert Series, "Hanasaka Jiisan" is based on a beloved Japanese folktale about an old man (the bassoon) and his dog (the oboe) who has a special talent for finding hidden treasures underground. Through musical storytelling, the piece explores the human brutality and the ephemeral natures of life, as well as the side of human compassion and the eternal nature of friendship.Duration: 14’00”

I Shall Not Want (Watashi wa Tokoshie ni) a été écrite pour la généreuse commande des membres du Trio Chesed à l'occasion de leur tournée de concerts 2018 au Japon. Le trio a demandé une pièce basée sur le Psaume 23, l'un des plus célèbres chants de David de l'Ancien Testament.
À la lecture du texte, j'ai été inspiré par sa forte imagerie symboliste et son sens de la conviction méditative. Dans I Shall Not Want, j'espère capturer non seulement ces aspects de la poésie, mais aussi l'esprit d'optimisme inébranlable et de stoïcisme extatique.
「わたしは永久に」は、トリオ・チェセドの2018年の日本でのコンサートツアーの際に、トリオ・チェセドからの依頼で作曲された。旧約聖書の中で最も有名なダビデの歌の一つである詩篇23篇を基にした作品をトリオから依頼されました。
このテキストを読んで、私はその強い象徴的なイメージと深い瞑想の感覚にインスピレーションを受けました。この作品では、そんな前向きな信念や希望を表現していきたいと思っています。
I Shall Not Want (Watashi wa Tokoshie ni) was written for the generous commission from the members of Trio Chesed for the occasion of their 2018 concert tour in Japan. The trio requested a piece based on Psalm 23, one of the most celebrated Songs of David from the Old Testament.
Upon reading the text, I was inspired by its strong symbolist imagery and sense of meditative conviction. In I Shall Not Want, I hope to capture not only these aspects of the poetry, but also the spirit of unfaltering optimism and ecstatic stoicism.

Free and So Thankful

"Free and So Thankful" came about as a collaborative benefit project with the Uhuru Quartet for the Women in Need (WIN) shelter in Manhattan. While the quartet played some music, the residents of the shelter were asked to write down their reflections. We were astonished when all of their responses were about gratitude: “Food and health,” “Water,” “Oxygen,” “Free and so thankful.” Using their words, we began improvising over a simple groove, until the whole room was singing in harmony over a spontaneous quartet accompaniment.
I am deeply inspired by the fearless creativity of the women at WIN, and am reminded to be thankful for things I often take for granted, such as food, water, clean air, and the safety of a home.

"Free and So Thankful "は、マンハッタンにあるWomen in Need（WIN）シェルターのために、ウフル・カルテットと共同で行った慈善事業として作られた作品です。カルテットが音楽を演奏している間、シェルターのみなさんは自分の考えを書き留めるように促されました。すると、その答えのすべてが「感謝」だったのです。「食べ物と健康」「水」「空気」「自由と感謝」。その言葉をもとに、シンプルなグルーヴの上で即興的に歌を作り始めたところ、四重奏の伴奏にのって、会場全体がハーモニーで歌い始めたのです。
私はWINの女性たちの勇気ある発想に深く心を動かされ、食べ物や水、きれいな空気、そして安全な住まいなど、当たり前のように思っていることに感謝することを思い出させてもらいました。

L'origine de la religion shinto au Japon s'étend au-delà de l'histoire écrite, dans la riche histoire orale du passé mythique. Enraciné dans l'ancienne pratique du culte païen de la nature, le shinto enseigne que des esprits surnaturels appelés kami sont présents tout autour de nous sous des formes organiques et inorganiques, à la fois mortelles et immortelles, parfois bienveillantes et parfois destructrices.
Le kagura, ou divertissement divin, est une forme cérémonielle de danse et de musique qui s'est développée dans tout le Japon continental pendant un millénaire. Conçue pour accueillir les kami au sein du peuple, la forme est libre et englobe un large éventail d'expressions en fonction de la divinité à laquelle le rituel est dédié.
Amaterasu, la déesse du soleil, est l'un des kami les plus aimés et vénérés de la tradition shinto, qui apporte la vie, l'espoir, l'avenir et l'énergie. Le premier mouvement évoque sa présence généreuse et majestueuse à travers une danse kagura lente au tempo fluide.
Susanoo, le dieu de la tempête, est en revanche un kami très redouté qui détruit les créations humaines par la force impitoyable du vent et du tsunami. Il est en même temps une figure héroïque, et a parfois protégé les humains contre d'autres maux surnaturels, et notamment contre les serpents géants orochi. Le deuxième mouvement évoque son énergie destructrice et féroce à travers un kagura beaucoup plus rythmé et harmonisé.

神道の始まりは、記録された歴史をはるかに超えて、神話的な過去にまで及びます。神道は、人間と自然との精神的なつながりに根ざし、カミは有機物や無機物の形で私たちの周りに存在し、死すべきものと不滅のもの、時に慈悲深く、時に破壊的なものとなると教えている。
神楽は、日本本土で千年以上にわたって発展してきた舞と音楽の儀式形態である。神々を民衆の中に迎え入れるために作られたもので、その形式は緩やかで、奉納される神々によって幅広い表現力を持つ。
アマテラスは、生命、希望、未来、エネルギーをもたらす神道で最も愛され、崇拝されるカミの一人である。第1楽章では、ゆったりとした神楽を流れるようなテンポで舞い、アマテラスのおおらかで荘厳な存在感を感じさせる。
嵐神スサノオは、風と津波の無情な力によって破壊する神として恐れられている。一方、大蛇（オロチ）から人間を守るなど、英雄的な一面も持っている。第2楽章では、神楽のリズムと和声がより強く、彼の破壊的なエネルギーが呼び起こされる。

The origin of the shinto religion in Japan extends beyond recorded history into the rich oral history of the mythic past. Rooted in the ancient practice of pagan nature-worship, shinto teaches that supernatural spirits called kami are present all around us in organic and inorganic forms, both mortal and immortal, sometimes benevolent and at other times destructive.
Kagura, or the divine entertainment, is a ceremonial form of dance and music that evolved throughout mainland Japan over a millennium. Designed to welcome kami into the people’s midst, the form is loose and encompasses a wide breadth of expressivity depending on the deity to whom the ritual is dedicated.
Amaterasu the Sun Goddess is one of the most beloved and revered kami of the shinto tradition, who brings about life, hope, future, and energy. The first movement evokes her generous and majestic presence through a slow kagura dance in fluid tempo.
Susanoo the Storm God, by contrast, is a much feared kami who destroys human creations through the heartless force of wind and tsunami. He is at the same time a heroic figure, and has at times protected humans against other supernatural evils such as the giant orochi serpents. The second movement evokes his destructive and ferocious energy through a far more rhythmically and harmonically driven kagura.
